Girl Code 101

How to be a friend, and keep the code.

It seems lately some of you beautiful goddesses have forgotten this little thing most of us go by. It's a simple act of respect for the other women in your life. This isn't complicated — it's basically: are you down for your girls, or not?

These rules were put in place by women who got burned by so-called "friends." Don't be the fake friend, the stupid bitch, or the home-wrecker. Be the girl who actually has the room when she walks in.

On Honesty

Keep it real. Be honest when she asks your opinion. Don't worry about hurting her feelings — worry about how you'd feel if you needed the truth and didn't get it.
Say it to her face. If you wouldn't say it to her, don't say it about her.
Tell on yourself first. Can't keep secrets? Say so upfront, so she knows what not to hand you.
Vocalize it. If you don't feel respected by your "friends," say something. If it doesn't change, move along.

On Her Man (Not Yours)

Let her live. If she likes someone, support her, warn her if you must — but that's it.
Never test him for her. There's no version of "proving he'd cheat" that involves you sleeping with him. Ever.
Go through her, not him. Need to reach her partner about something? Ask her first. Unless she says it's fine, don't be a shady bitch about it.
Screenshot and show her. If her man flirts with you or contacts you behind her back — save the proof, show her immediately. No sitting on it.

On Loyalty

Her beef is your beef. Nobody should be disrespectful to your girl. Have her back, always.
Cover for her. If she needs an excuse for her parents, partner, or work — back her. She'd do it for you.
No group-chat betrayal. Don't gossip her business "for the tea." That's betrayal with extra steps.
If you broke the trust, own it. That's on you, not her "trust issues."

On Everyday Love

Be her cheerleader. Support her in life, always. Make sure she feels valued.
Remember the little things. Birthdays, hard weeks, the small stuff. Make real memories.
Celebrate, don't compare. Her win is not your loss. Jealousy isn't code.
Check on the strong friend too. She has bad days she never posts about.
Never fight over a man. He's temporary. She isn't supposed to be.
Know your worth, bitch. Don't let a friend quietly become an enemy.
Be Honest
