At 38, sitting across from the therapist I've been seeing every week, I finally got a name for something I'd been living with my whole life: BPD. I hit every checkmark on the test. Somehow, relief came before anything else did.
There's a specific kind of comfort in a diagnosis. Not because it fixes anything, but because it means you're not just "too much," or "dramatic," or "crazy" — there's an actual name for what's happening inside you, and other people have found their way through it too. Now I'm doing the work of learning how to handle it, one week at a time.
I also live with PMDD, and between the two of them, the highs and lows don't stay quiet inside me — they show up in my relationship. Three years in, with a man who is genuinely amazing, and I still sometimes can't get the right words out. "I'm fine" comes out when I'm anything but. I close off exactly when I should let him in...
